Bukomansimbi South Member of Parliament Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjoji has brushed aside criticism from his political opponents, insisting that no amount of negative commentary will distract him from delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by the people.

“Many people have spoken against Hassan Mukiibi before, but I want to assure you that nothing will intimidate me. They talked during the campaigns and we defeated them. They are still talking, and we shall defeat them again through service to our people,” Mukiibi said.

The thanksgiving event attracted thousands of residents from across Bukomansimbi South and featured prayers led by Christian, Muslim and Pentecostal religious leaders.

The ceremony also drew religious leaders, politicians, cultural leaders and officials from the Buganda Kingdom who gathered to celebrate Mukiibi’s victory in the recently concluded elections.

Mukiibi told supporters that his mission of representing and transforming Bukomansimbi had only just begun, declaring that he intends to dedicate the next 45 years of his life to the district’s development.

“I have been given a responsibility by the people of Bukomansimbi. Those who lost should forgive me because the people chose me to serve them. I am ready to dedicate my life to ensuring that this district develops,” he said.

The MP assured residents that they would not regret electing him and outlined several priority sectors he intends to focus on during his first term in Parliament, including health services, agriculture, infrastructure, and women and youth empowerment.

Residents who attended the event urged the incoming legislator to prioritise improving healthcare services and supporting farmers.

They also called for the upgrading of the Sembabule–Mateete–Mbirinzi–Kibinge–Kyabakuza road, a major transport corridor linking the districts of Sembabule, Lwengo, Masaka and Bukomansimbi.

According to local leaders and farmers, the road plays a critical role in transporting agricultural produce to markets but remains in poor condition, affecting business activity and livelihoods.

Responding to the concerns, Mukiibi assured residents that the road project is among the priorities already identified by the government.

“Do not worry about the road. It is one of the projects that government has already considered and it is indicated in the NRM manifesto. The government has already started the design of the road, so very soon we are going to focus on our road, and my responsibility will be to closely monitor and follow up to ensure that the promise is fulfilled,” he said.

Bukomansimbi District Chairperson-elect Julius Buregeya pledged to work closely with the new MP and other leaders to ensure effective implementation of government programmes aimed at improving people's livelihoods.

“Our administration will focus on fairness, accountability and service delivery. We are ready to work with all elected leaders to ensure that Bukomansimbi achieves meaningful development,” Buregeya said.

Representatives of the Buganda Kingdom praised Mukiibi for his continued support of community development initiatives and his commitment to programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the Kabaka’s subjects.

Hajj Muhammad Musessere, the Kingdom representative for Kibinge Sub-county, said the Buganda Kingdom looks forward to working with the MP-elect in promoting socio-economic development and preserving cultural values in the area.

The thanksgiving ceremony concluded with renewed calls for unity, cooperation and development as Bukomansimbi prepares for a new chapter under its newly elected leadership.
